This photograph was taken while Manning was captain of the SS America. He later became captain of the SS United States, and was the skipper during her maiden voyage when the trans-Atlantic speed record was broken. The Hales Blue Ribband Trophy, on display here at the Museum, was awarded for that voyage and Harry Manning is honored as a member of the National Maritime Hall of Fame.
